Destination Unknown

20 years ago, I started a second career as a motorcycle journalist, and I’ve been lucky enough to see many of the beautiful places in the world and publishing stories and photos of my adventures. I’ve started documenting my bicycle adventures in a similar fashion, and will be sharing those stories here. Please join me.

  • Shaker Barn, originally uploaded by john m flores. Via Flickr:Scrolling through the archives and found this – a photo of the round barn at Hanckock Shaker Village in MA. Something about the quiet orderliness of this photo attracts me, as if this single shot is a metaphor for the Shaker way of life. Shot with…

  • Sunflower on the verge, originally uploaded by john m flores. Via Flickr:We’ve got a couple of sunflowers plants in the backyard on the verge of blooming. It’s interesting to see how each plant has responded to its immediate environment. This one is getting the most sun and is thus the tallest by quite a margin.…

  • Panasonic DMC GH2, a group on Flickr. FYI, we’ve got a growing group of GH2 owners and enthusiasts sharing their photos on Flickr. If you’ve got any question about the camera and what it can do, one visit to the group will show you!

  • poseur, originally uploaded by john m flores. Here’s a simple example of the benefit of a flip-twist screen, this one on the GH1. Imagine taking this shot on a dSLR without one. It can be done, but would require a lot or trial and error. Here, in the heat of the Kansas sun, it was…

  • Contemplation, originally uploaded by john m flores. Via Flickr:Uncle V in a quiet moment… The Panasonic 14-140 is finding its stride. Or should I say that I’m coming to grips with its strengths and capabilities. The "Mega" Optical Image Stabilization works really well and counteracts some of the slowness. • Nate says, "You didn’t get another camera, did you?", originally uploaded by john m flores. Via Flickr:Completely unplanned, furry little one. I bought this lens (the Panasonic 14 F2.5) and it came with a free camera (the Panasonic GF2). Or at least the nearest thing to free you can get. It was an offer I…

  • Sun. Flower., originally uploaded by john m flores. Via Flickr:A late afternoon sun ignites a sunflower. Just got back from family reunion. Plenty of photos of happy people. And some flowers. Years from now I’ll look back on this period as my “Zoom Era”, as I’m really liking how long zooms change the way one…

  • Giving the GH1 a chance, originally uploaded by john m flores. Via Flickr:So I bought the GH1 as a backup to the GH2. Cheap. Real cheap. I’ve been really happy with the GH2, so I thought that the GH1 would be very similar. It is, but it’s also very different, and I’ve struggled with it.…

  • 100 degrees in the shade, originally uploaded by john m flores. Via Flickr:Hot hot day today. One-hundred. Even the cows sought shade today. I think I was the only fool in leather sitting astride a heat machine. Things usually cool off once you are on the move, but on a day like today it feels…
